Tonight Was Not The One is the debut single of Peckham based singer-songwriter Gaby Duboisjoli. The track was written and recorded during lockdown by Gaby in her home-studio in South-East London, and mixed and mastered by Ryan Whyte Maloney in Las Vegas. This catchy, feel-good song is about resilience. Gaby explains: “I wanted to remind people that we all have bad days, bad nights out, bad relationships… The most important thing is to keep fighting and accept that life’s not always sunshine and roses. Take the L and move on!”
When Gaby first had the idea for this song she was singing it in her head whilst walking down the street. She soon found herself dancing on her own to the beat in her head. There and then she knew she had to write it down. Through rewrites and proper production it became a heavybeated dance track, inspired by Azealia Banks’ 212 and Todrick Hall’s Dem Beats. “It was never going to be anything else!” she muses. Gaby Duboisjoli grew up steeped in music and performance thanks to her parents’ career as cancan soloists at the Moulin Rouge in Paris. Piano lessons and soloing in the choir throughout childhood at her regional conservatoire expanded her musical universe outward from cabaret and showbiz, and her love of music now spans all genres, with a particular penchant for jazz, funk, soul and blues. Moving to London from a rural French village at the young age of 17 saw the explosion of music, art and opportunities that she had always dreamed of, and she has been singing ever since. On stage Gaby has been a member of the Sunday Assembly band and the Sunday Assembly Jazz Collective, London Beat Club (original funk band), Enchorus (Gospel choir), The Chromotones (all female a capella group), The Fabulous Honeys (Big Band) and Frank the Cat (funk and soul function band). In the studio she has recorded for Column:Inches, Zivonyx and the London Beat Club. She has also top-lined and recorded for British singer-songwriter Andy Evans and French rapper Omid. The track will be accompanied by a music video, which will be released on 20 November 2020.
