singer/songwriter li3a overcoming loneliness through live streaming attracting 800k viewers

Li3a (pronounced “L-e-e-z-a”) is a singer, songwriter and producer based in Brighton, UK.
Since the summer of 2020, Li3a started live streaming on a weekly basis and had an early success with her online performances attracting 800k viewers per stream.

This experience changed the direction of her musical journey. The support provided by her online community has made possible the release of her new single "Not Knowing You" as well as the follow up EP "Dear Broken Hearted".

"Thanks to them, I was encouraged and motivated to work on these songs and to finish them even though at times it was emotionally difficult to do it", Li3a says. 
 
"Not Knowing You" is different from the previous material that Li3a put out, and has an acoustic and raw feel to it. The song describes the feeling of valuing your past even if it was painful. 

There is no shame in feeling sad or lonely. Unfortunately, mental health is still a taboo subject, and the inability to express feelings without fear of judgment is not just scary, but it makes you feel like you are on your own. It’s true that current events have triggered emotions that often make us feel like nobody understands what we are going through. But it’s important to remind ourselves that even when human connection is taken away, it doesn’t mean it’s lost. Music, for one, doesn’t understand physical barriers.

I started live streaming because I always had this urge to play for people and I always felt this strange connection that develops when you play music for somebody else; you connect to people on an emotional level” says Li3a. 

The challenges brought by last year’s restrictions did not mean a limitation for this emotional connection. Li3a quickly understood that live streaming allowed her to establish a space for overcoming challenges through reflection and sharing.

Every week, over 800k viewers tune in to her performances and have helped her redefine her musical direction. Songs that she never thought would be released were requested more often by the community and lead to the release of “Not Knowing You”.

These online performances created a safe space for many people to come back to and connect not only with Li3a but with each other.
